Flying Forest is a UK-based company pioneering the production of bio-oils from second-generation biomass, focusing on transforming forestry waste into valuable raw materials for chemicals and industrial processes.

Based in Iisalmi, Finland, Flying Forest works closely with local stakeholders to promote innovation and regional development.
Aviation contributes approximately 2-3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and the industry faces mounting pressure from regulatory bodies and environmental groups to reduce its carbon footprint.
Global mandates are tightening, with SAF blending targets reaching 70% by 2050. But current supply of SAF meets less than 0.1% of aviation fuel needs creating a significant gap between demand and availability.

By 2030 the Flying Forest operations plan to be producing over 300,000 tons of SAF p.a. using scalable and proven Fischer-Tropsch technology.

Regulatory Tailwinds
For a world that can no longer wait, Flying Forest delivers a powerful environmental solution for the aviation industry helping cut carbon emissions by up to 80%, protecting future generations and driving responsible growth. The demand for sustainable aviation solutions has never been greater.
The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) requires airlines to buy CO₂ emission allowances. The EU's enhanced framework and the Fit for 55 Initiative mandate increasing SAF use, starting at 5% and aiming for 63% by 2050.
Jet Zero Strategy & Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) mandate the use of SAF in the UK with a buyout price at £4.70/ltr This is indicative of the global SAF market dynamics, including cost barriers, regulatory influences, and supply-demand imbalances.
CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) led by ICAO, caps international aviation emissions at 2020 levels. Airlines must purchase carbon offsets for emissions above the baseline, promoting cleaner fuels like SAF.
Finland has ambitious targets to integrate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with a blending mandate starting in 2025 at 2% SAF and is designed to increase to 30% by 2030, requiring fuel producers to incorporate renewable fuels into aviation fuel.
